Impaired Skeletal Muscle Endurance
نویسنده
چکیده
Study objective: The aims of this work were to determine (1) whether patients with COPD have impaired skeletal muscle performance (ie, maximal strength and endurance) compared with healthy subjects, and (2) whether the level of physical activity, body composition, and lung function are related to skeletal muscle performance in COPD patients. Methods: Seventeen COPD patients and eight healthy age-matched control subjects performed maximum voluntary contraction (MVC) of the quadriceps and an endurance test consisting of dynamic contractions of the quadriceps against 20% of MVC at an imposed regular pace until exhaustion. The endurance test duration determined the muscle "limit time" (Tlim). A score of physical activity (PA score) was obtained using an adapted physical activity questionnaire for the elderly, and body composition was measured by the bioelectrical impedance method. Symptomlimited oxygen uptake (Vo2 si) was also assessed in COPD patients using a maximal incremental

The effect of 8 weeks endurance exercise on the content of total and phosphorylated AKT1, mTOR, P70S6K1 and 4E-BP1 in skeletal muscle FHL of rats with type 2 diabetes
Introduction: The mTOR pathway in skeletal muscle plays a very important role in the protein synthesis process, which plays a very important role in proteins. The role of endurance exercise has not yet been studied in this important pathway in protein synthesis in people with type 2 diabetes. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of 8 weeks endurance training on the con...

There are no studies comparing myocardial metabolism between endurance- and resistance-trained athletes. We used 2-deoxy-2-[18F]fluoro-d-glucose and positron emission tomography combined with the euglycemic hyperinsulinemic clamp technique to compare the ability of insulin to stimulate myocardial, skeletal muscle, and whole body glucose uptake between weight lifters ( n = 8), endurance athletes...

متن کاملExercise training and the antioxidant alpha-lipoic acid in the treatment of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.
One hallmark of the insulin-resistant state of prediabetes and overt type 2 diabetes is an impaired ability of insulin to activate glucose transport in skeletal muscle, due to defects in IRS-1-dependent signaling. An emerging body of evidence indicates that one potential factor in the multifactorial etiology of skeletal muscle insulin resistance is oxidative stress, an imbalance between the cel...
متن کاملThe Effect of Intensive Endurance Activity on Myocyte Enhancer Factor 2C Gene Expression of Slow and Fast Twitch Muscles in Male Wistar Rats: An Experimental Study
Background and Objectives: Myocyte enhancer factor 2c activates the genes of the slow-twitch muscle, the muscle which plays role in endurance activity. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a program of intensive endurance activity on MEF2c gene expression in fast and slow twitch skeletal muscles in wistar rats. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, 14 mal...
